At Woodwrights Wide Plank Flooring we know that using the glue-down method is the most effective way to install your wood floors. Glue-downs with a quality adhesive will create a dramatic difference in the outcome of your completed project, both short-term and long-term. Investing in a proper glue-down installment will guarantee satisfaction and result in a finer quality finished product.
Product we use: STAUF Adhesive
- STAUF Adhesives are safe for the environment and are certified green products
- This adhesive forms a stronger bond with the wood than any other adhesive
- Highly resistant to aging
- Remains Elastic
- Suitable for radiant heat systems with primer
- Allows normal dimensional changes in wood flooring
- Very low odor
How it’s done:
- The glue down method is used predominately on concrete slabs, but can be used on mostly any surface such as plywood, stone, vinyl and ceramic tile
- Glue-downs are installed by the notched trowel spreading of adhesive on the subfloor in a pre-determined area
- Planks are laid over determined glued area. This process is repeated until the entire space is completed
- Cure time is between 24-48 hours, directly after that normal traffic can then take place
Why glue-down method is better:
- Most consumers prefer the solid feeling of wood floors underfoot; floating floors do not give same support (they feel hollow)
- High strength glue forms a bond with the bottom of the wood during it’s curing process. This makes cupping/movement less likely to occur
- Using an Adhesive will form a bond with the wood. This will stabilize planks much more effectively
- Once cured, the glue adds another moisture barrier to protect against humidity
